Toys for Christmas

Balls of Yarn!Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Like many of you, I’m now trying to get my Christmas shopping done as soon as I possibly can, so I don’t have to rush out Christmas Eve to pick up gifts with the crowds of people that wait until the last minute! My brother and I used to wait until Christmas Eve and have a whirlwind of a shopping day, usually ending up buying tons of gift cards out of frustration. I’ve been put in charge of buying a specific toy for my nephew. I don’t understand how it works, but it’s a coloring or painting pad that he can draw on, and it won’t run off onto the carpet. I love buying him toys and books, puzzles and stuff like that. It’s funny that I spend the money, though. Right now, he gets a kick out of playing with little balls of scrap yarn from my Grandma. He likes to unravel them, twist up in it, and walk around trailing it from room to room. Then, he takes it back to his dad to wind back up. Here is a picture of the two of them on Thanksgiving. They look like a couple of cats, occupied with that yarn!

Is it crazy to spend the big bucks on toys for toddlers? Or should I just give him a cardboard box, some yarn, and a stack of scratch paper to rip up and spread around the house? What do you think?

Have a lovely weekend!

Kathy’s in the Thanksgiving Spirit

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

This week is filled with Thanksgiving activities and preparations.  I have been busily preparing for the feast we will have on Thursday and putting my house in order for guests.  I suddenly realized, just like many other meaningful holidays, that I was missing the real meaning for the day and was way too busy to enjoy what it should really be about.  The first Thanksgiving dates back to Colonial times and I am sure their day was not centered on decorations or the perfect roasted turkey.  They were just happy to be alive, to have survived the harsh winter, and for the meager meal before them.

With that in mind I began to think about all that I am grateful for and how I have failed to express that gratefulness. I thought this would be a great place to simply leave a ‘thanks’.  Would you join me?  We are all grateful for good health, family, and friends, so let’s go beyond that.  I’ll start first.

I am very thankful for my job – when many do not have one, and for the privilege to live in America. I’m grateful for technology that allows me to “see”  and talk to my grandchild even though he is 8 hours away.

You’re next…….I can’t wait to read your response.

With Thanksgiving a week away, I thought this was a perfect time to think about the many things in my life that I am most thankful for. I recently stumbled upon a website that included a “Gratitude Challenge”. The assignment was to write down 26 things you are most grateful for, using the alphabet as a creative format to jot them down.

Sounds easy? I encourage you to try this yourself for Thanksgiving. Take a few moments to jot down what you are grateful for and I bet you will realize just how truly blessed you are.

Making Handmade Cards!

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Last night, my mom and I went to a card making class. I consider myself pretty crafty, and I always enjoy a new project, but I’ve never made my own greeting cards!

Cards

The gal that hosted the workshop had everything already cut out and set up for us when we got there. We only had to assemble the cards. We made three different kinds. One for Thanksgiving, one for fall, and then another for Halloween. Of course, the Halloween design is my favorite!

I’ve been thinking about making my own cards for Christmas. Do you make your own greeting cards? Do you have any advice for a newbie? I’d love to hear your hints and tips!

Have a great weekend,
Anne

Time to Decorate!

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Sunday! IMG_2873

This weekend, I’ve spent quite a while doing some deep cleaning at home. This means moving furniture to run the sweeper, wiping down the cupboards, washing the baseboards, and putting away my spring and summer decorations to make room for my fall and Halloween! Of course, I LOVE Halloween. It just might be my favorite holiday, and I like to do it big! Here are some of my favorite Halloween decorations. You might recognize them – they are from the 2010 Dan DiPaolo line! I have several of the pieces, and I cover my TV stand with them.

"Give Thanks" Pumpkin & Turkey - 117-83733This Friday is July 1st, and you know what that means…

More new product leaving Blossom Bucket’s warehouses, and heading for your local retailers’ shelves!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, sometimes it’s difficult to work months in advance, but we’ve practically got it down to an art form here at “The Bucket.” June is when we begin shipping harvest and Halloween, but July is when Thanksgiving merchandise starts moving out.

Thanksgiving: The Aftermath!

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Thanksgiving aftermathHi there, and Happy Black Friday!

I hope you’ve already started your Christmas shopping! I started a while back, but I’m still not done. Now, I’ll have to deal with crazed crowds along with the fact that I have less than a month to finish it all!

Oh well. I can’t lie: sometimes I actually like the crowds!

As you all know, I love just about everything Christmas!
