Kathy’s in the Thanksgiving Spirit

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

This week is filled with Thanksgiving activities and preparations.  I have been busily preparing for the feast we will have on Thursday and putting my house in order for guests.  I suddenly realized, just like many other meaningful holidays, that I was missing the real meaning for the day and was way too busy to enjoy what it should really be about.  The first Thanksgiving dates back to Colonial times and I am sure their day was not centered on decorations or the perfect roasted turkey.  They were just happy to be alive, to have survived the harsh winter, and for the meager meal before them.

With that in mind I began to think about all that I am grateful for and how I have failed to express that gratefulness. I thought this would be a great place to simply leave a ‘thanks’.  Would you join me?  We are all grateful for good health, family, and friends, so let’s go beyond that.  I’ll start first.

I am very thankful for my job – when many do not have one, and for the privilege to live in America. I’m grateful for technology that allows me to “see”  and talk to my grandchild even though he is 8 hours away.

You’re next…….I can’t wait to read your response.

Christmas Shopping in West Virginia

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Like I posted on Monday, I spent some time down in Wheeling, West Virginia at the Oglebay Resort with some of my friends last weekend. We wanted to check out the Festival of Lights, and we weren’t disappointed! My friends and I love Christmas so much, but never really are able to spend a big chunk of time together celebrating over the holidays. We took the two hour trip down to Wheeling to do some Christmas shopping, and check out the sights.

For Our Blessings, We Give Thanks

With Thanksgiving a week away, I thought this was a perfect time to think about the many things in my life that I am most thankful for. I recently stumbled upon a website that included a “Gratitude Challenge”. The assignment was to write down 26 things you are most grateful for, using the alphabet as a creative format to jot them down.

Sounds easy? I encourage you to try this yourself for Thanksgiving. Take a few moments to jot down what you are grateful for and I bet you will realize just how truly blessed you are.

Deer Season for Kathy!

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

The males in my family long for this time every year. They enjoy the woods and all it has to offer them. As soon as the first leaf  begins to change and cooler temperatures hit our area, the guys begin planning their trips to the deer camp. They are all about roughing it, chili out of a can, no baths for days, and a good campfire to end their day.

This year already, my 17 year old son nabbed his best deer ever – a 9 pointer weighing 240 pounds. (more…)

Oglebay Display

Over the weekend, I spent some time doing some Christmas shopping down at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia.

I snapped this picture in one of their many gift shops! What a beautiful display of our collegiate line! Of course, I root for Ohio State… and thankfully, they had a great grouping of OSU items! They had a wonderful selection of holiday and everyday product, as well.

If you’re looking for our product in Wheeling, don’t forget to swing through Oglebay!

Have a great week!

Annie Parties Like a Rock Star!

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Last weekend, my best friend turned 33 years old, and threw a “Party Like a Rock Star” party at a local bar to celebrate. Since it was “rock star” themed, we had to come as a rock star, a groupie, or a even a roadie. You know how much we love to dress up!

Rock Stars!

Here’s part of the gang: A member of Gorillaz, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Bjork, Madonna, Debbie Gibson, and Alice Cooper.

Kung Fu Panda!

Hi there, and Happy Friday!

As you all probably know by know, I am a HUGE lover of all things Halloween. This definitely includes costume parties!

My nephew isn’t really old enough to go trick or treating yet, but my sister in law found a cute “Kung Fu Panda” costume for him to wear. He got the costume on, and loved it! When she went to put the hat on him, that was the end of that! He wanted nothing to do with it! So, here he is! The “Kung Fu Panda” without his hat… Instead, that is an Ohio State University beanie. I can already see he’s going to be like his dad, and many other OSU fans. You know, the kind that think they can wear an OSU item to any event whether it be a wedding, funeral, prom, or job interview… We actually have a picture of my brother in his tux right before his wedding wearing an OSU ball cap. What can I say! I come from a long line of snazzy dressers.

What were you for Halloween? I’d love to hear your stories!

Have a great weekend!

Way Too Much Candy… Not Enough Goblins…

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Unfortunately, we live in a house that is hard for little kids to walk to safely. Every Halloween I stock up with candy to only have it all left over for our consumption. Not a good thing!!

Ways to Stay Fit Through Fall

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Saturday!

Unlike most people, the fall and winter months are my “power” months for weight loss and fitness. You’d think I’d lose weight more in the summer months, but I’m the exception! I think it probably has to do with my hatred of sweating. The only time I enjoy sweating is working out, in an air conditioned environment. Crazy, but true. But, I honestly enjoy sweating outside while it’s cooler out. I know, I know, I make no sense! But it’s just how I am.

Anyway, seeing as how I bought enough candy for about 100 trick or treaters and I’m thinking I’ll get less than 10 kids, I’m going to end up with a ton of candy on my hands. Dangerous! Here are some ways to burn some calories in cold weather: (more…)

Time for Halloween Cookies!

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Mummy faces, spiders, and pumpkins!

Last weekend brought one of my favorite days of fall: Halloween Cookie Day! My mom, my Grandma, my Aunt Gail, my Aunt Jill, my cousin Morgan, my sister in law Kelly, and of course, my lovely nephew, all got together to decorate our famous cut out cookies. This year, we had plenty of mummy faces, pumpkins, and spiders!
