Celebrating the 4th!

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

103-82281 - Waving FlagWe have been experiencing some extreme heat here in the South, and it looks like there is no relief in sight. With July 4th celebrations coming up this weekend I’m sure you, like me, are trying to figure out a way to enjoy the celebrations and not subject yourself to a heat stroke.

Every year, we try to do something fun and this year is no different. As of right now, my daughter will be running in the 5K Peachtree Road Race that morning, and then we will enjoy a cookout with family, and end the day watching fireworks with friends. After that we will collapse from the heat and head for a cool shower.

Blueberries are in!

Last week, I went and picked up 25 pounds of freshly picked blueberries from a co-op in my area.  We love blueberries so much, and this year I believe the crop is tastier than ever.

My family loves them for their sweet taste……..I love them because they are so good for you.  (more…)

Momentous Summer Vacations!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Do you remember summer vacations as a child?  I remember vividly looking forward to the last day of school and beginning my summer vacation thinking it was an eternity until school would begin again.  I really don’t know why summers seemed so long back then. I’m sure it was because I had no responsibilities and my days were filled with nothing but fun times!

Now as an adult, I view summer vacations differently.  Instead of having days filled with nothing but play, I long to create memories with my family that they will remember for a lifetime.  I have found that the best vacations are not those where we spend tons of money, but those that create memories that we speak about years after the event.

Five years ago we decided to vacation in Hilton Head, SC, and enjoy a week at the beach since my oldest son was getting married soon and this would be his last time to vacation with us single.  We loaded up and headed to the beach ready to fill the week with great memories.

My husband decided to take us all deep sea fishing one day because none of us had ever been very far away from the shore on a boat before.  (more…)

Final Countdown to Wedding Bells!

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

0911-82782As you are reading this blog I am beginning my week-long vacation.

It is a much needed time off and I am eagerly anticipating days filled with nothing but pool-side novel reading and late morning breakfasts………………NOT!

My daughter’s wedding is in four days and my week is crammed with last minute shopping and final detail planning. We are in the 11th hour and, ready or not, it is here. We’ve had her final dress fitting, final consultation with the caterer, and final payment made to the photographer.

A Milestone Birthday Celebration!

0988-83352100 years old!  Can you imagine?

While working in the showroom I have written many orders for Barbara Lloyd’s Birthday Celebration pieces, and many times I have thought about the person that would be blessed enough to receive this “100-An Oldie But a Goodie!” piece.

Never Too Old for a Do-Over!

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Have you ever wished for a do-over, or simply that something you said or did never really happened?

It’s kind of like trying to unpeel a banana. Once that sucker is peeled there is no undoing it. I’m sure you know what I mean – you wish you could stuff those words back into your mouth before they have completely rolled off your tongue?

WHY DID I SAY THAT?……. I REALLY DIDN’T MEAN FOR IT TO SOUND THAT WAY??…..IF ONLY I COULD TAKE THAT BACK! WHAT WAS I THINKING??

I’m sure we have all wished for “do-overs” at one time or another. It seems these mistakes take place when we are most stressed and pushed for time.

There is a famous story in our history books that tells of a senator, David Rice Atchison, who served as President FOR ONE DAY, March 4, 1849.

May Celebrations!

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

101-82913May is a month of celebrations, both official and the ones we make for ourselves.

In the Midwest, children still mark May 1st, also known as May Day, by leaving small baskets of goodies at friends’ doorsteps, ringing the bell, and scampering away unseen.

On the second Sunday, we honor moms with Mother’s Day.
