Time to Ring in the New!

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Atlanta ShowroomJanuary is appropriately named after Janus, the God of the Doorway. For many, the door opens to New Year’s resolutions, to others it opens to new beginnings and promises, and to others it is a time to clean out the old to make way for the new. January at Blossom Bucket means much of the same. Winter Shows ring in the New Year with the opportunity to preview our exciting collections ready to fill shelves with fresh, new product. Showrooms and temporary show booths have been revamped to showcase this merchandise in fresh creative ways.

With Thanksgiving a week away, I thought this was a perfect time to think about the many things in my life that I am most thankful for. I recently stumbled upon a website that included a “Gratitude Challenge”. The assignment was to write down 26 things you are most grateful for, using the alphabet as a creative format to jot them down.

Sounds easy? I encourage you to try this yourself for Thanksgiving. Take a few moments to jot down what you are grateful for and I bet you will realize just how truly blessed you are.

Pumpkin Picking 2011!

It seems like last week that I was writing about summer fairs! Where does the time go? Last year my family went pumpkin picking with my daughter and son in law expecting their first child any day. As you can see from the picture, time has a way of flying by. That is their son, our grandson Luke, sitting on a pile of pumpkins. (more…)

Summertime Is Festival Time!

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Musikfest 2011One of my favorite things about summer is the great annual outdoor fairs and festivals that take place.

Musikfest, one of the largest free music festivals in the U.S. and held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is an attraction that I try not to miss. This annual 10 day music festival, which showcases more than 300 performers, attracts more than a million visitors.

True to a German style festival, all the venues are names “Platzes.”  These “Platzes” are giant tents spread out throughout the festival which feature rotating musical acts in a myriad of genres. One tent everyone always checks out is the Festplatz, featuring Polka music and a huge dance floor which is always crowded, especially when it is “Chicken Dance” time.

MS Walk

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

This past Sunday, I was among the 2245 participants who walked, rolled or strolled to boost awareness of Multiple Sclerosis.

Team MSketeers!

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and affect individuals differently.

The local 3 mile walk was held at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania. (more…)

Spring Forward!

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Spring AheadDaylight Saving Time officially began on Sunday, March 13th at 2:00AM.

This past Sunday the sun began to rise one hour later in the AM and set one hour later in the PM.

For some this means waking up to darkness or loosing an hour’s sleep. Then for others, like me, this is the beginning of longer daylight hours and holds the promise of warmer weather just on the horizon. Not sure how anyone else feels, but after this winter, warmer weather will be most welcome!

When I noticed that this coming weekend was the official start of DST, I did a little research.

Did you know that: (more…)

New Year’s Resolutions: A History

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

“A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.”

The  tradition of New Year’s Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 BC when a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar, where he looked back on past events and forward to the future. Once a tradition of performing simple good deeds, modern day resolutions often involve breaking negative patterns.
