Acacia Creations sample -cIn Cindy’s last blog, she wrote a bit about Destiny Rescue, the mission that we’re supporting with jewelry being purchased for The Gateway to Amish Country.

We now have another company doing good works to add to our list: Acacia Creations.  Acacia Creations offers handmade items by the women of Kenya and Uganda.  Part of what makes their wares so incredibly unique is that many items, including jewelry and coasters, are made from recycled paper!  This photo show just a few of the items you will see at The Gateway!

Garden Party at The Gateway!

Monday, July 11th, 2011

GatewayGardenEvent2c-revWe just finished our June event and are already working on new product for the July event.

If you missed the June event, you missed some new jewelry that is hand made by girls in Taiwan.  The mission is called  Destiny Rescue.  The purpose of this organization is to help rescue girls sold into slavery.  The mission rescues the girls out of this terrible situation and offers them a place to rehabilitate.  The girls are  housed in a dormitory where they are taken care of, given counseling, and trained to make jewelry so they have a viable trade skill.  The girls make enough money to help their families back home. It is not uncommon in the third world countries for the girls to be sent away to work in order to send money home to help take care of the rest of the family.

Hank-2There is a local livestock auction in our area where you can purchase all kinds of animals.

I had in mind purchasing some exotic chickens, peacocks, and possibly a mini donkey to be a companion to Molly.

We arrived at the auction early, so we could take in all of the livestock.  It was amazing all of the different animals.

Enjoy Fall Before It’s Gone!

Fall is in the air, and harvest time is my favorite time of the year.

The corn fields are about ready to pick and the pumpkins have had an incredible year.  Our fields are a sea of orange and it is just beautiful up against the fall foliage.

I hope everyone takes time to enjoy the fall season with all its beauty!

Swans 1cCindy is adding to the animal population on her farm, and is really enjoying naming her new friends!  She recently brought Hank, a miniature cow; Molly, a miniature horse; and Sebastian the goose to their new home.

She also got a pair of ducks and a pair of swans.  However, she hasn’t come up with a name that she likes for the swans yet, so we need your help!

Email your name suggestions for Cindy’s swans to BlossomBlogger@BlossomBucket.com.  You have until Monday October 11th to get all of your ideas in.

Cindy will go through the entire list of suggestions, and choose the finalists.

If one of your suggested names becomes a finalist, you will receive a special FREE GIFT* from Blossom Bucket, Inc.

The final selections will be voted upon by all, and the winners who NAME THOSE SWANS will be rewarded with $25 in Blossom Bucket, Inc. product!

So, put your creative thinking caps on, and get your names in now!  We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

*Free gift is determined by Blossom Bucket, Inc. Finalists will be notified by Blossom Bucket, Inc. via email, and asked to forward the mailing address to which they would like their free gift sent.  Limit 1 gift per person.

Pebbles

I have been raising peacocks for about 3 years now. They are so beautiful and I really enjoy them.

My adult peacocks, Fred and Wilma (I’m starting the Flinstone family), had 3 eggs last year and all 3 hatched in my incubator. The children’s names are Pebbles, Bam Bam, and Betty.

Unfortunately, Pebbles was hatched with a birth defect which affected her leg. She had surgery on her leg which worked for a while, but as she grew, her leg became damaged.

Barn Rescue!

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Two years ago, we purchased a farm at auction that was in terrible disrepair.

We fell in love with the setting: the farm land, forest, and streams were calling our names!

Jim enjoys hunting, Zack enjoys riding four-wheelers, and I love animals!  Seemed like the perfect place for us, and I fell in love with the 1832 bank barn that needed some serous help.

We listened, and they are back and will begin shipping this November!

We have created barns, one of which (at right) is based on our barn (below), which have quilts on them.
