It may seem too early to be thinking about Halloween, but I’m sure you’ve noticed that, alongside the back to school supplies, a few items have started popping up in stores. In a few short weeks, the shelves will be filled to brim with all sorts of candy, buckets, costumes, and of course, decorations!
This week, we invite you to make your own mummy to get in the “spirit” for Halloween! For this project, you will need the following supplies:
Step One: |
We started with a plain glass vase/candle holder. It is 10″ tall and 4″ in diameter. You can always choose to use another size if you’d like your mummy to be taller, shorter, wider, etc.
Step Two: |
Wrap the cheesecloth around the candle holder. Leave yourself a little extra length at the beginning so that you can tie the two ends together into a knot when you’re finished wrapping. You will want to cover the entire glass, but you do not want to cover it evenly. Having areas where the wrapping is a little thicker or overlaps a bit more will help to create texture and depth. In addition to wrapping unevenly, lightly applying black spray paint to a few areas will create additional depth, as well as giving the wrapping a slightly “dirty” look. Who ever heard of a perfectly clean mummy? |
Step Three: |
| Using your black construction paper, cut out two eyes and a mouth.
You will next be gluing your white buttons to the eyes, so make sure that you leave yourself plenty of room for them. You can always trim the paper if you feel like they’re too large. You can also substitute “googly” eyes that you can find at any craft shop to give your mummy a different look! Affix the eyes and mouth with hot glue. |

Step Four: |

We accented our mummy with our Halloween Cat Over Jack-O-Lantern which adds some extra color to our display!
