My bookshelves downstairs are beginning to look like an overstuffed laundry basket. I just can not bring myself to get rid of any books, especially those that have a memory attached to them. My book collection ranges from THE CAT IN THE HAT, by Dr. Seuss, to HAMLET, by Shakespeare.
I have books that I have read to my children when they were young, books they have read throughout their school years, and books that my rabid reader husband has collected over the years. Books, books everywhere and not a place to sit!
I love reading. My favorite times to engage in a good book are ……………well, anytime really. I love a great book with a good cup of coffee. I could snuggle up to a warm fireplace and read all day. I also love reading while laying around the pool or on a road trip. In other words……anytime is the right time for a good book!
Right now I am reading LADY JULIAN, a book about a wonderful lady that lived back in the 1400’s. If you were to ask me what my all time favorite book was I would have to say TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. I asked my 24 year old daughter this same question and she said, A KING FOR BRASS COBWEB – her favorite since she was 7 years old.
SO………what are you reading?
I would love to know what is your all-time favorite book, and what you are reading now? I cannot wait to read the responses. My book wish list will grow I’m sure…and my bookshelves will need an addition!
Have a great day and to all the bibliophiles out there………happy reading!

I just came across your blog, and I had to comment! I am a HUGE book lover, and a very active reader. I’m getting ready to move all of my boxes this weekend, and I’m not a bit ashamed to say that I have more boxes of books than I do bags of clothing.
It’s just the truth! I’m reading about 3 different books right now, and I’m very excited to read more by the pool next week while I’m off work. It will be me, the pool, some fruit, and a huge stack of books. My love of reading started before I could even read… It’s silly to admit this, but my mom potty-trained me by giving me books to read on the potty. Haha! True story. And yes, we have pictures. My parents would make me close my bedroom door while I read funny books – I laugh too loud! I have this book from when I was a kid – I can’t remember the name of it, but it’s about a bear and a house full of popcorn. I found it in a box at my Dad’s house in getting ready to move, and I can’t wait to read this to my nephew! Hopefully he will inherit my love of books! Also… the only furniture I have put together at my house would be my bookcases… Priorities, right?
Great post, Kathy!
Thanks for your post guys! Glad to know there are other book lovers out there.
I’m in the same boat, Kathy! Despite having moved back from Arizona to Ohio just over two years ago, I still have not unpacked all of my books because I do no have enough shelves for them! I left two 6′ bookcases in Arizona because the shelves were bowing, and bought sturdier ones, but I need at least one more before I could get everything out of boxes. And the doesn’t include the plastic tubs of my children’s books that I couldn’t bear to part with. Yes; this goes back a long way for me!
I to am a huge bookreader. I have multiple book shelves packed with books! Every year in our town there are two huge booksales put on by the town library. Every year I come home with boxes of books to read
! It is really hard for me to pinpoint one favorite book as I had had several over the years! Charlotte’s Web was my favorite as a child! I read that to my children now. I would get one author and read all of their books the older I got. Clive Cussler, Wilber Smith, Jean Auel….read all of those! The most moving book I have ever read I just finished a week ago. It was called Sarah’s Key. If you want a nice cry this is definately the book to go with!
GONE WITH THE WIND!!!!!!! I was born in Georgia and love this book – along with the movie. Thanks Cathy!
My favorite book too, is To Kill a Mockingbird. But a very close second is Gone With the Wind. I belong to a book club and just love it. I read CONSTANTLY! It is my treat to myslef. If I get the bathrooms cleaned I can read for an hour. If I get the kithen floor mopped I can read for an hour. And I can’t get to sleep unless I read – no matter what time it is and even if it is only 2 sentences, just can’t sleep until I read. I sometimes have 2-3 books going at a time………Started when my mother taught me to read and 4 yrs old and has never gone away. My book shelves too, are crammed with books and like you, it is hard to part with any of them……..
