Barb’s Empty Nest

By definition, an empty nester is a parent whose children have grown and left home.

Well, after almost 30 years of parenting, I guess my husband and I now fit this definition.

"Cherish Family" Birds & Nest (111-83683)

Looking back, I realize we were eased into this new stage of our lives during the kid’s college and grad school years when one or both of our two girls were away.

Then, 3 years ago, our oldest was married and moved into her new home, and now our youngest has purchased her first home and has started moving out. Neither is far away in distance, and both will always be close in our hearts and a huge part of our lives. What is termed “empty nest” is just a new nest with the promise of new beginnings.

We are truly blessed with countless memories and could not be prouder of the beautiful, talented, and caring girls we have raised. We cherish the gift of the “present,” and are looking forward to the exciting new journeys and adventures that still lie ahead.

“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.”
