Breeding “Bucket Birds”!

Hello, and Happy Friday!

Hopefully you’re getting ready to have a nice, long holiday weekend. Our office is closed today, and we’ll be closed on Monday, too. It’s time to get our rest before we start the holiday shipping and summer show seasons!

When I came into the office on Monday, the first thing I noticed was the crazy mess the Bucket Birds had made. For little birds, you’d be surprised at how far they can fling birdseed! As I was cleaning up around their cage and getting them some fresh food and water, I saw two eggs in one of the nests! We all gathered around the cage and checked them out, and thought how fun it would be to have two baby birds and watch them grow up. Little did we know what we were in for… By Tuesday, we had twelve eggs between two nests. How’s that for an unexpected surprise! As of today, we have way more than twelve… I will try and get some pictures of the nests!
I will keep you updated as the eggs hatch and we get to see some baby zebra finches!

On a related note, as of Monday, all 3 of the baby robins frombaby robins
the nest above my window are gone. I only managed to get one picture of them after they had hatched, but let me tell you this: by the time they left the nest, these birds were HUGE! One of them was at the top of the office stairs last Friday, and he almost gave me a heart attack! We’re so used to these little finches, and the baby robin was at least two times the size of one of those! Thankfully, it was able to fly away after I managed to get into the office.

Check back tomorrow for some facts on our feathered friends!
Have an awesome weekend!
Anne
