Teacher’s Day Pencil Holder Flower Arrangement DIY!

DSC_0024-C
It’s just shy of 3 weeks until National Teacher Day, May 4th. If you’re still looking for a fun and colorful way to show you appreciation to a great educator, today’s DIY project may be just the thing!

For this project, you will need the following supplies:

  • •red flower pot
  • •pens & pencils
  • •silk flowers
  • •lentils
  • •black electrical tape
  • •dowel rod
  • •drill press
  • •hot glue & gun
  • •optional: green, cream, red, white, and black paint & fine brush
  • •Your favorite Blossom Bucket items

Step One:

Optional first step: Paint a “worm” on your flowers pot by first painting seven circles in green paint, making the first circle slightly larger with a little bump for the nose. You can mix your green paint with a bit of cream paint to get the lighter shade shown.

Use black paint and a very fine brush to add an oval for the eye; small lines for the legs and lashes; and longer, curved antennae.

Add a small curve of red paint for the mouth.

Use the slightly darker green paint along the top of the body to add depth.

Finally, add a tiny white dot to the center of the eye.

Step Two:

If you have painted on your flower pot, allow it to dry completely before continuing.

If you did not add a design to the flower pot, this is your step one!

Fill your flower pot approximately 3/4 with lentils. If your flower pot has a lip, filling to the line where the lip begins is a good measurement.

Step Three:

Use your black electrical tape to attach the silk flowers to the tops of some of your pens and pencils.

Step Four:

The lentils will help to hold your “arrangement” in place!

Step Five:

Using the drill press, make a small hole in the base of your Blossom Bucket item.

We used “‘Toad’ally Awesome Teacher” from designer Suzi Skoglund for our pencil holder.

Add hot glue to the hole or the end of the dowel (which should be similar in length or slightly longer than the pens and pencils you’re using), and insert the dowel into the hole.

Now add the your Blossom Bucket item to the center of your arrangement!

Tip: Check out the School Days or National Teacher Day categories on our website for more fantastic items that will work with this project!

I had this same idea but used old short canning jars and then
a nice ribbon on front. The beans work great for holding pens and pencils.
