About Deb Strain
Lovingly built by her husband Scott and other family members, Deb Strain’s Saltbox home and studio shares the surrounding wood with a collection of cats, dogs, raccoons, squirrels, fox and deer. It is in this peaceful setting that Deb finds her inspiration. Drawing on memories of growing up in Ohio, she seeks to convey a kinder, gentler way of life, and the beauty of simple, everyday life is the subject of much of her art. Deb continually collects ideas and images for her next illustrations, whether from nature, antique shops or her own life experience.
The great-granddaughter, granddaughter and daughter of quilters, Deb also designs fabric to carry on the tradition. It is from the genre that she developed and continually refines her love of pattern. She recognizes the beauty and artistic endeavor in each quilt and cherishes the quilt her own grandmother made for her out of the fabric Deb designed.
An art teacher for nine years, Deb left teaching in 1994 to devote herself to her family and the development of her own art. Her husband, three children and twin grandsons are her pride and joy. Their beloved Saltbox home is filled with laughter, creativity and love. “Art is my passion, but my “real-life” love is my family,” explains Deb. “My two daughters are both artists and my husband and son are our biggest supporters. We are very fortunate to share such a wonderfully bonding interest.” Deb feels continually blessed by her family’s closeness and being able to follow her dream to create art and share it with others.
