Snowy Weather and Distribution

We watch the weather daily to see if we have to deal with snow. When winter hits, it can affect our warehousing/distribution.

A few weeks ago we had lake effect snow, and man did it come down! We had containers coming in, and it got to be interesting. One of the truck drivers took a turn a little too close to the corner. The back end slid down in to the ditch and buried the back end of our container in the snow. You can say we had to wait awhile to get this container unloaded.

We also had another incident where the truck driver didn’t know where the side of the road was because of all the snow. He ran the front end of the truck up into a neighbor’s yard and left some nice tire marks.

Snow affects our movement of product. We have multiple warehouses and they are all their own separate building. Our lot needs to be salted down constantly to keep it snow free. If we don’t, we are unable to move product from our warehouses into our pick/pack operation.

Our shipping and receiving department is definitely ready for the snow to leave us for another season!

How does the weather affect you or your business? Does inclement weather keep you or your customers home or are you in an area where you’re accustomed to dealing with it? Do sunny days bring in more customers or are they elsewhere enjoying the outdoors? How do you overcome these obstacles?

We’d love to hear from you!
