Fighting Cabin Fever!

On February 5, when we were expecting the big snow storm, I never imagined that 2 weeks later the snow we got from that storm would just be the base of the snow we would have today.

Nat - 2010-02-17 22.48.56Here are two pictures that I took from my back door: one on Feb 5 during the storm (above) and one on Feb 18 (at right).

It has snowed almost every day since then. Like most of the country, we are currently living in a sea of white, including the sky. We have not seen the sun for a while either. In general, here in Northeast Ohio, there is a lot of complaining.

In this, I find opportunity. That is the marketing way!

As the working mother of two young children, it is not always easy to find time for yourself. Living in a 20 inch sea of white with no sun can make it more challenging. What I need is an opportunity to leave my house, to go somewhere warm , fun, inexpensive with yummy treats.

If you are thinking cruise, that is a little less practical than what time will allow right now. I was actually thinking an evening open house at one of the local stores in my town. With a warmly scented candle burning, cookies and a special event or coupon, I could be very happy. Actually very very happy; it would not take much!

Here are some ideas I have for impromptu events that may encourage a working mother of two to visit your store.

Just send me an invite to:

  • A warm-up sale
    • Find one of those warming massage chairs for customers to take advantage of.
  • A special after-hours event to forget the snow.
    • Cover or block the windows so I cannot see the snow outside
  • A beach party
    • Crank the Caribbean music, turn up the heat, and offer warm hors d’vors.
  • Have a designer singing event
    • See if there is a designer that is local to you and could be there
  • A Pre-Saint Patty’s Warm-Up party
  • An Easter DIY craft party

Nat 0218As a parting note, here is a picture of our day of play outside.

My husband had shoveled so it was ok to let my 19-month-old out.

For reasons made obvious by this picture, we have not even attempted sled riding with her as I do not want to lose her!

What ideas do you have?

What types of special events would encourage you to brave the outdoors, and head to your favorite local shop?
