Christmas Memories: Barbara Lloyd

Barbara Lloyd, another member of the Blossom Bucket family of designers, shares her incredible stories!

1.  What are you earliest Christmas memories?

One year my mother decided to sew my dollies a bunch of new outfits.  I remember her sitting at the sewing machine whipping up these cute little baby doll outfits and asking her what she was doing.  She told me that she was sewing them for my cousin’s dollies for Christmas.  Of course I was too young to know at the time that she was really sewing them for me, and I was so jealous…I wanted those doll clothes for my own babies!  I remember being so excited when I opened up the box on Christmas morning and there were all the doll clothes that my mother had so meticulously and lovingly sewed.

2.  How have they affected your designs?

We didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up, so alot of our Christmas decorations were homemade.  That was perfectly fine with me, because it allowed me to be creative.  We’d draw and color ornaments and cut them out for the tree and did all kinds of Christmas baking.  It was truly an old fashioned Christmas back then and my earliest designs were probably done back then at the kitchen table.

3.  What is your Christmas design inspiration?

I live in the north (North Dakota), so it’s easy to be inspired by the snow.  As I look out my window right now, I see the most beautifully frosted trees.  Add some Christmas music and I can design for hours.

4.  What is your favorite Christmas piece with Blossom Bucket?  Why?

058-80313I love the large burgundy believe with the little snowmen sitting on the letters.  It was made for one of the first Christmas seasons I had with the Bucket and when I saw it in the showroom in Atlanta, I knew it was going to be a hit.  It’s one of my best selling designs by far.

5.  Has there been a piece that has been an unexpected success?

The stitchery that says, “Live so that when your children hear these words they think of you…”   For some reason, that design really struck a chord with people.  It’s been around for several years now and I hope that people take the saying to heart.

In the last few months as my faith has become stronger I have a special place in my heart that warms when I see anything with believe on it. So this piece brightened my day and my spirit just seeing it. Thank you Barbara and thank you Blossom Bucket.
