Kristy’s Keys to Black Friday

For the past several years I have been a participant in the day after Thanksgiving “Black Friday” fun. It has become a ritual in our family. We never miss the opportunity to find a great deal. They are everywhere!

Thanksgiving is not only about giving thanks and eating turkey with my family; it is also the day the newspapers are full of sale ads. I have a shopaholic mother, 2 sisters, 1 sister-in-law, and a best friend who are also avid participants.

After our Thanksgiving table is cleared off, out come the sale ads! We spend hours plotting and planning our route. Our normal meeting time: 3 am. We have gone in the rain, snow, sleet, hail, and only a few times the sun. The weather is pretty unpredictable in Ohio. Needless to say, nothing stops us.

Hopefully, this year it won’t snow, although they are calling for it. I can remember a few times huddling together to try to stay warm in a blizzard while waiting in a 2 mile long line anticipating the opening of the doors to get inside. Layers and layers of clothes help; once you get inside you can remove a few. This year my 13 year old daughter has been begging to tag along. I am still not sure if I will let her. She is growing up and I still can’t accept it.

We always have so much fun, finishing off the festivities at Bob Evans with coffee and hotcakes, recapping all the great deals we got.

If you have never experienced the day after Thanksgiving shopping adventure, you have no idea what you are missing! People will call you crazy, but once you have done it once you won’t be able to stop. I look forward to it every year, and it’s less than a week away!

Hope to see all of you out there with me.

~Kristy
