Hello! Happy Friday! TGIF!
As you’ve probably read, we have launched a new campaign – “What Lengths.” I’ve been reading the blogs posted since the start of the campaign, and let me tell you – it makes me feel very lucky! I don’t have any problem with my tools. Let me tell you why!
Growing up as the oldest child (and only daughter) of a mechanic/handy-man/self-taught carpenter/ lumberjack of a dad, I can’t tell you how many dolls I had, or if I even had any little princess costumes or crowns. Instead, I can get you to any auto parts store in a twenty mile radius, change the brake pads on your car, and help you dig post holes for your deck. To hang out with my dad, I got to hang out in junkyards looking for parts to fix or build cars. I learned how to identify classic cars as soon as I saw the headlights. I learned how to frame out a pole building and fix fences. An entire WALL in our garage was nothing but tools. I’ve never taken my car to a garage for any sort of repair. I’ve never had to hire a contractor to update or fix anything in any house I’ve ever lived in. Instead of books or magazines, I keep a hammer and screwdrivers in my nightstand. My brothers and I are what you can call, “very handy.” I don’t worry about anyone taking my tools – I worry about them not doing the job right. I look forward to buying my first house, and covering one of my garage walls with tools.
I definitely consider myself to be one of the lucky ones, and I wouldn’t change that for a thing in the world! That being said, I’d like to thank my dad for teaching me how to use those tools… even if I pretend I don’t know how to use them sometimes.
Have a great weekend!

Wow, what a testimonial for tools and your dad. I love when girls bend the rules and do some of the more masculine things around the house and on the cars. I often refer to my own daughter as ‘my son’ when certain things need put together or taken apart. She has two toolboxes – one upstairs and one downstairs. So they’re never far away.
Your dad taught you well. You go girl!
What a very special dad you have!! I’m sure you had some Barbie dolls and maybe even a Lolli doll
when you were growing up. Your dad taught you very well how to be self-sufficient and not have this
“male” world take advantage of you!! You could not have had a better dad!!
