While I was on the phone the other day with one of our customers, she mentioned something that I had to share! Her shop is famous! That’s right! JNB Country Shoppe, located in Chester, Vermont, was featured in “Moonlight and Mistletoe”, with actors Tom Arnold, Candace Cameron, and Barb Nevin! I could not resist asking Nancy, the owner, a couple of questions about the experience and share it with you!
The movie is about a young woman who moves away from Santaville, a year round village that people visit to experience an old fashioned Christmas. She becomes a workaholic, and along the way forgets the meaning of Christmas. When she comes back home to Santaville, she finds the true meaning of Christmas again.
How did your store get chosen for this movie?
“The producer, Craig Anderson, the Director Karen Arthur, and the Assistant Director Timothy Bourne, thought that the village would be a PERFECT setting for their film. Karen has a home in Chester – a traditional New England village located on “the green” – so it fit the theme and the needs of the movie perfectly.”
What was it like being on set?
“They filmed for a couple months in The Village of Chester, and they used some of the stores “props”, but had brought most of their own.” Nancy said “I have a new appreciation for the film industry. Its hard work and is very time consuming. Making a movie is all structure, and they all work very long hours.”
They had to film the winter themed movie in the summer because the equipment does not work properly in the cold, and it is difficult to lay down the tracks for the movie cameras. Nancy said that she is “very excited” that her store was filmed, it’s not every day that you’re picked to be in a movie!
What were the actors like?
“Everyone was very nice, Candace Cameron, Tom Arnold, and Barb Nevin. They worked very hard!”
Did the movie affect your sales during the filming?
“We had to be closed for a little while during the filming.”
How about effects on sales AFTER filming?
“People are excited to be in the village where the movie was filmed, and it has made a positive impact on sales. Eventually, my intentions are to start playing the movie year ’round in the Christmas department of the shop, which I am now calling the Santaville. We have props from the movie, and I’m going to hang a sign that I’m getting. We sell Christmas year round here. Everyone can see the movie on the Hallmark Channel in November, but I will be showing the film all year!”
I am sure this is an experience that Nancy and the people in the Village of Chester will never forget! JNB Country Shoppe is more than a gift store! Stop in and check them out!
Thanks!
