It’s Sidewalk Season

I don’t know about you guys, but I have absolutely LOVED not having to wear a jacket to be outside. Spring and Summer are my two favorite seasons, and I always welcome the start of Patio Season, and Sidewalk Season.

Does your community do anything to encourage sidewalk shoppers? Down in Columbus, Ohio, we have “Gallery Hop” night. All of the art galleries, boutiques, gift shops, and all other stores stay open late, and open their doors to the community. Most of them have awesome displays outside that bring the customers in, and it is so much fun! It’s not every Friday night that you can buy a unique necklace at an art gallery, a few cards and gifts for your Mom in a card shop, and then some treats for your dog at a pet boutique – especially when they usually close up early. The roads are usually blocked off, which makes it even more of a fun event. Up in Canton, where I live, we have “First Friday” on the first Friday of every month. It usually involves a live band in the square downtown, new displays in the art galleries, street vendors, and the little boutiques and gift stores staying open late enough for us to shop! The roads are all blocked off, it is almost a “carnival” atmosphere, which is always fun! Does your city / community do anything like that? I’d love to hear your stories!
